What factors accelerate the loss of coffee freshness?
They are Air, Humidity, Heat, and Light. To maintain its freshness and aroma, it is important to keep coffee away from these elements to preserve its organoleptic characteristics for as long as possible. Coffee can be purchased:
- GROUND: As much as possible, it is best to consume freshly ground coffee (coffee loses more than 50% of its aromatic substances after 30 minutes), so we can say that buying ground coffee is always discouraged.
- BEANS: The situation is different for coffee beans, as the whole bean has a smaller surface area in contact with the aforementioned elements.
So where should you store it? In the fridge? Better not. Coffee doesn't get along with either cold or humidity, and the thermal shock combined with the change in humidity when you take your container out of the fridge will create condensation. You know those tiny drops of water that form on containers when they are removed from the fridge?
From experience, our advice is:
In a cupboard inside an airtight container (preferably dark) throughout the year, while in the refrigerator during summer, making sure to put it back immediately after taking the necessary amount.
Thank you and enjoy your coffee.
